Surface Type: Exterior Natural Stone Patio Tiling
Introduction
A homeowner in Schaumburg contacted Green-Gen Carpet & Fine Rug Cleaning after noticing that the natural stone patio in their backyard had become cloudy, slippery, and uneven due to a deteriorating surface coating. Wanting to restore its original appearance without replacing the stone, they scheduled an Outdoor Patio Restoration in Schaumburg after learning about our professional restoration process for exterior stone surfaces.
The patio featured premium light-colored natural stone installed in an elegant herringbone pattern. A previously applied high-gloss topical sealer had trapped moisture beneath the surface, and years of UV exposure caused the finish to become patchy, faded, and increasingly slippery whenever it became wet. Our goal was to safely remove the failing coating, restore the stone’s natural matte finish, and provide long-lasting protection against future weathering.
The Client’s Challenge
The homeowner wanted to preserve the existing natural stone rather than replace it. The artificial glossy finish no longer reflected the elegant appearance they originally envisioned, and the uneven fading made the patio look poorly maintained despite regular cleaning.
The failing coating also collected dirt and contaminants, making maintenance increasingly difficult. The homeowner needed an Outdoor Patio Restoration in Schaumburg that would eliminate the deteriorated sealer while maintaining the integrity and natural texture of the stone.
Every Patio begins with a detailed inspection of the stone type, existing coatings, environmental exposure, and overall surface condition. This ensures we choose the safest restoration process for long-lasting results.
Our Professional Restoration Process
1. Chemical Coating Removal
Our technicians applied a professional-grade, eco-friendly coating remover specifically formulated for natural stone surfaces. The solution penetrated and dissolved the deteriorating acrylic sealer without damaging the stone underneath.
2. Controlled Mechanical Scrubbing
Once the coating softened, we used commercial floor machines equipped with soft, non-abrasive brushes to gently agitate the surface. This process lifted dissolved sealer, dirt, and contaminants from the stone’s natural pores and grout joints while preserving the original texture.
3. Truck-Mounted Pressure Extraction
Using our enclosed truck-mounted extraction system, we thoroughly rinsed away the dissolved coating and embedded residue. High-pressure cleaning combined with powerful vacuum extraction ensured an even finish while preventing overspray and protecting surrounding landscaping.
4. Premium Penetrating Stone Sealer
After allowing the patio to dry completely, we applied a premium impregnating stone sealer. Unlike topical coatings, this penetrating sealer protects against water, oil, grease, and environmental contaminants without creating an artificial shine. The result is a durable, breathable, slip-resistant matte finish that enhances the stone’s natural beauty.
The Results
The completed Outdoor Patio Restoration in Schaumburg delivered an impressive transformation. The cloudy, sticky acrylic coating was completely removed, revealing the original warm sand-colored stone beneath. The elegant herringbone installation once again became the focal point of the outdoor living space.
The restored patio now has a consistent natural matte appearance that highlights the stone’s authentic texture while providing improved slip resistance during rainy weather. The homeowner was delighted with the dramatic visual improvement and appreciated that professional restoration eliminated the need for expensive replacement.
In addition to restoring the appearance, the new penetrating sealer provides long-term protection against moisture, stains, UV exposure, and seasonal weather common throughout the Chicagoland area.
